Macallan – Oscuro Batch 2017 (70cl, 46.5%)

Macallan Oscuro is a single malt from the 1824 Collection, bottled at 46.5% in a 70cl bottle. This is the 2017 batch. Oscuro is Spanish for dark, and the name points to the colour the whisky takes from its casks. It was matured in a mix of Spanish sherry casks, including Oloroso seasoned casks, with a large share of first fill. After the malts were married, the whisky rested for a further six months. Colouring was added and the whisky was chill-filtered. The nose combines wild berries, dark chocolate, orange and vanilla with sherry and light smoke. Dried figs, ripe oranges, apples and Christmas spices lead the palate, and the long finish brings smoke and chocolate truffles.
