An Aba is the lightly peated signature single malt from Macaloney, distilled at Saanich near Victoria on Vancouver Island. Its peat level is 15 PPM. It is a vatting of whisky from Kentucky bourbon casks, Spanish Oloroso barriques, Pedro Ximenez casks, Portuguese STR red wine barriques and new American oak. Batch 3 was bottled in September 2023 at 46%, filling 692 bottles of 70cl, without chill-filtering or added colour.
The nose brings light peat, fresh pine, orange liqueur, lemon sorbet, rum and raisin cake, liquorice and ripe tropical fruit. The palate is rich and creamy, with gentle peat smoke, prunes, figs, marzipan and lasting oak. The finish is dry and lightly peaty, with a maritime note.
