Maker's Mark – Founders Series Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (1L, 45%)

This is Maker's Mark Founders Series Kentucky Straight Bourbon, bottled at 45% in a one-litre bottle. The label carries images of Bill Samuels Sr, Bill Samuels Jr, who retired as president in 2011, and Rob Samuels. This bottle is signed by Bill Samuels Jr and Rob Samuels. Maker's Mark was developed by Bill Samuels Sr and uses soft red winter wheat in place of the usual rye. It is distilled to a lower proof than most US producers use, a choice made to keep the rich flavours. The nose is fresh-cut fruit with spiced honey and citrus peel. On the palate there is barley malt, a little nuttiness and vanilla beans, leading to a finish of gentle caramel, butterscotch and dry oak spice.
