Mars Komagatake IPA Cask Finish is a small batch Japanese single malt from the Shinshu distillery, set in the Japanese Alps. This is the 2020 release.
The malts were aged in American white oak barrels, blended, then returned to ex-IPA beer barrels for a few months. Those barrels came from the Minami Shinshu brewery on the distillery site, 800 metres above sea level.
The nose shows citrus moving towards vanilla. The palate is silky, with cereal and fruit, and the finish has a touch of bitterness from the beer barrels.
