This is Mars Maltage Komagatake, a 10 year old pure malt from Japan, in an unusual dumpy bottle. It contains malt whisky only, with no grain whisky added, blended from selected malts.
It comes from the Mars Shinshu distillery in Nagano Prefecture, which stands at 798 metres above sea level and is the highest operating distillery in Japan. The distillery was founded in 1985 by Hombo Shuzo, a shochu maker from Kagoshima Prefecture.
The taste is calm, with flavours of red fruit such as cherries, and a deep, complex finish.
