A Japanese whisky from the Mars Shinshu distillery in Nagano, bottled at 40% in a 750ml bottle. It is a non-chill filtered expression of Iwai Tradition, and Natsu means summer in Japanese.
The base spirit matures in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, then spends a further six months in casks that previously held umeshu, Japanese plum wine. The mashbill is malted barley and corn, double-distilled in copper pot stills.
The nose has cinnamon, honey and toffee with building ginger. The palate is rich and silky, with toffee, honey, grape and raisin, then unripe plum. The finish is medium, with sweet-and-sour plum, black tea and a gentle tannic dryness.
