Shinshu Mars Iwai Asagi is an eight-year-old Japanese blended whisky from Mars Shinshu Distillery in Nagano Prefecture, bottled at 48% in a 75cl bottle.
It marries malt and grain whiskies matured in American oak, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The malt spirit is distilled on site, at a distillery standing 798 metres above sea level, while the grain whisky comes from another Japanese distillery that is not named.
The nose is spring blossom and lilies, with cotton candy, Turkish delight and cherry sherbet. The palate brings apple and pear, vanilla custard, milk chocolate, clove and honey. The finish is medium-long, with white pepper and honey and a lightly floral close.
