This is a four-year-old Japanese single malt from the Mars Tsunuki distillery, distilled in 2020 and bottled in 2024 at 60.3% ABV. It was matured in Spanish virgin oak and comes in a 70cl bottle, amber in colour.
Tsunuki opened in 2016. Its black tower, 26 metres high, still holds the column that was used until the 1970s to make shochu. The aromas lean oxidative, herbaceous and spiced, and bring to mind Mortlach.
The nose offers chestnut, Chantilly cream, orange, pomegranate, raisin and green Chartreuse. The palate moves from almond, cashew and grenadine to thyme, pepper and malt, and the finish brings banana, orange and salted butter.
