Michter's US 1 Barrel Strength Rye (75cl, 55.3%)

Michter's US 1 Barrel Strength Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey, bottled from single barrels at cask strength in a 75cl bottle. It is made at Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery in Louisville, using a copper pot still. Spirit goes into the barrel at 103 proof, well below the legal maximum of 125, which the distillery says gives a richer, fuller-bodied whiskey. Because each barrel is bottled at its natural strength, the proof differs from one bottle to the next. Butterscotch, cinnamon and dark cherry lead the nose. The palate is rich, with vanilla, caramel, burnt orange peel and blackstrap molasses, and the finish is dry and oak-forward, with baking spice.
