Millstone Special #28 is a Dutch single malt from Zuidam Distillers, made from heavily peated malt. It was distilled in 2018 and matured for five years in Tawny Port casks, then bottled in 2023 at 46% ABV.
The peat smoke is fresh and elegant, set alongside the rich fruit character that the port casks add.
On the nose, balanced smoke comes with fresh red fruit and bright lemon and lime, and the peat grows stronger as the whisky opens. The palate pairs peat smoke with orange marmalade, fresh fruit and a warming spiciness. The finish is long, with lingering citrus, fruit and gentle smoke.
