Milroy's Heavily Peated Single Malt Virgin Oak Batch 1 (70cl, 46%)

A heavily peated Lowland single malt bottled by Milroy's of Soho as Batch 1 of its Virgin Oak release. It is a vatting of 40% whisky from new oak casks and 60% from first-fill casks that previously held Kentucky bourbon. The new oak adds a lively accent alongside the coastal peat character and oily texture. It is bottled at 46%, without chill-filtering or added colour. The nose shows medicinal smoke and sticking plaster, tomato leaf, orange peel, charred fruit, black pepper and liquorice. On the palate are juicy black cherry, sweets and strawberry jam on slightly burnt toast, with cinnamon, road-tar smoke, eucalyptus and aniseed. The finish is exceptionally long, with kerosene and sweet chocolate with chilli.
