Morris Smoked Muscat is an Australian single malt from Rutherglen in Victoria, bottled at 48.3% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It was first matured in French and American oak barriques that held South Australian Cabernet and Shiraz, then moved into ex-liqueur Muscat casks aged between 6 and 20 years.
The finishing took place in red wine barriques charred to the Alligator level over open fire in the distillery's own cooperage. Total maturation comes to three years.
The nose brings fruit mince pies, port-soaked tobacco, white chocolate and a hint of mezcal, with smoke like a smouldering campfire rather than peat. The palate opens sweet from the Muscat without turning confected.
