Mortlach 13 Year Old is part of the Diageo Special Releases 2021, the Legends Untold series, a limited edition inspired by the mythical creatures said to guard Scottish distilleries. For Mortlach, a lone wolf howling at the moon was chosen. It is bottled at 55.9% in a 70cl bottle.
The spirit was distilled at Mortlach in Speyside in 2007 and matured in virgin and refill American oak casks.
The nose is caramel and red berries with aromatic wood and sweet smoke. The palate is full and intense, with vanilla, dry spice and oak, and a surprising sharpness. The finish is powerful and long.
