Mortlach 13 Years Old is a Speyside single malt released in 2021 as part of Diageo's Special Releases, in a 70cl bottle. It was matured for 13 years in a combination of virgin and refill oak casks.
Mortlach uses a partial triple distillation known as 2.81, run through six stills.
The nose has dark orchard fruit, stewed plums, dried figs and a savoury note of roasted meat and leather, with star anise and ginger. The palate is full-bodied and oily, with dark chocolate, espresso, black pepper and nutmeg. The finish is long and warming, with dark fruit and gentle smoke.
