A 17-year-old Mortlach from Speyside, distilled in 2003 and bottled in 2021 by Adelphi. It matured in a refill sherry hogshead, which gave 267 bottles in 70cl size.
Mortlach is known for a complex distillation regime, with the spirit distilled 2.81 times, and for a weight that pairs well with ex-sherry casks.
The nose is granulated sugar, vanilla pudding, butter, a little aniseed and buttercream. On the palate come ripe pear, creme brulee, butter cake and vanilla custard. The finish is long, with a buttery texture that builds.
