This is a 20 year old single malt Scotch from Mortlach, in a 75cl bottle. It revives the Blue Seal, a mark first used in 1909 by Alexander Cowie for Cowie's Blue Seal, a private release made from the best of his aged stock.
The whisky is made from Refill casks combined with ex-sherry casks, and the years in wood bring pepper and cinnamon spice with mellow vanilla oak.
The nose has roast chestnuts, tobacco, dense chocolate and red berries. The palate starts with clove and brandy butter, then chewy dates, orange peel and mature oak. The finish is lasting Christmas spice with cooked summer berries.
