Nikka – Coffey Malt 90th Anniversary (70cl, 45%)

Coffey Malt is released to mark Nikka's 90th anniversary, in a 70cl bottle at 45%. It is made only from malted barley, but distilled in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which places it in the grain whisky category. Nikka developed it to show what its Coffey stills can do with malted barley. The whisky matures in used casks, chosen to show its malty character and silky texture. Pear, citrus, plum and raisins sit beside vanilla, praline and pastry notes, with a hint of mirabelle. The nose is citrus, pear and vanilla. Plum and raisins join vanilla and praline on the palate, and the medium finish keeps plum and a touch of liquorice.
