Nikka – Frontier Japanese Whisky (48%)

Nikka Frontier is a Japanese blended whisky, bottled at 48% ABV. It is built around the heavily peated malt of the Yoichi distillery, and the orange and copper packaging carries a large letter N. In the glass it is a deep amber. Peat smoke leads the nose, set against orange and lemon, with chocolate, grain and soft vanilla beneath. On the palate there are baked apple and sweet caramel alongside the peat, with white pepper and dark chocolate. The finish is long, with oak spice, smoke and a faint maritime note.
