Nikka Super (70cl, 43%)

Nikka Super is a blended Japanese whisky, first released in the 1960s, in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV. It reflects the early vision of Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka. The blend brings together malt and grain whiskies, mainly from the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries, matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks. Yoichi contributes subtle peat and Miyagikyo a soft fruit character. The nose is soft peat, dried fruit and toffee, with a hint of old leather and spice. The palate is creamy, with caramel, stewed apple, walnut and a gentle smoky undertone. The finish is smooth and warming, with malt, pepper and dried oak.
