Nikka – Taketsuru Pure Malt 21 Year Old (70cl, 43%)

Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 21 Year Old is a Japanese blended malt whisky, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It takes its name from Masataka Taketsuru, who learned whisky making in Scotland before returning to Japan. He worked at Suntory first, then founded his own distillery in 1934, which was later named Nikka. The nose is strongly oaky, with prunes, cocoa, coffee beans, a little soy sauce and a touch of aniseed. On the palate it is rich, with chocolate and coffee notes alongside pepper, turmeric and ginger spice and plum jam.
