Nikka Yoichi 17 Year Old is a single cask Japanese single malt, distilled in 1987 and bottled in 2004 at 53.1%, in a 70cl bottle. It comes from cask number 254829. Yoichi is on Hokkaido, and the whisky matured for 17 years in the distillery's coastal warehouses. It was bottled at natural cask strength without chill filtration. The distillery uses direct coal-fired pot stills, and part of the barley is peated. The nose combines maritime peat smoke, ripe orchard fruit, honey and toffee with polished oak. The palate is rich, with peat, dark chocolate, dried fruit, coffee beans and baking spices, and an oily texture. The finish is long and warming, with smoke, spice and dried fruit.
