Nikka Yoichi Non-Peated is a limited edition single malt from Yoichi Distillery on Hokkaido, bottled at 47% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It was the first US release in the Nikka Discovery Series, announced ahead of Nikka's 90th anniversary in 2024.
Yoichi is known for heavy peat and smoke, but this edition is made entirely from unpeated malt. Its smokiness comes instead from the distillery's direct coal-fired distillation.
The nose is bright and fruity, with more orchard fruit and less medicinal smoke than the standard Yoichi. The palate is rich, with fruit and coal-fire smoke in a different balance. The finish is clean and distinctive, with the coal-fire character lingering.
