Old Ballantruan 10 Years (70cl, 50%)

Old Ballantruan 10 Years is a peated Speyside single malt made at the Tomintoul distillery. It is bottled at 50% ABV in a 70cl bottle and is non-chill-filtered. The whisky matures only in hand-selected American oak casks that previously held bourbon. The name comes from the Ballantruan Spring, the water source of Tomintoul. Tomintoul makes the heavily peated Old Ballantruan malt over three weeks each year before cleaning the stills thoroughly, so the smoke does not carry into its standard malt. The nose is lightly spicy with peat smoke, balanced by a sweeter, creamy centre. The palate has gentle peaty smoke over a sweet, creamy, malty base. The finish builds in sweetness, which smoky depth gradually replaces.
