Old Bardstown is a Kentucky straight bourbon distilled, aged and bottled at Willett Distillery in Bardstown, from a family recipe dating back to the 1940s. It is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV) in a 75cl-sized 750ml bottle.
The mash bill is 72% corn, 13% rye and 15% malted barley. It is distilled twice, using a column still and a Vendome copper pot still, then aged for a minimum of four years in new, number four char American oak barrels. The current release first appeared in 2016, with a label reproducing original artwork from Thompson Willett's era.
The nose is cinnamon and baking spice with pineapple upside down cake, caramel and a hint of flint. The palate is smooth and medium bodied, with butterscotch, apple skin and allspice. The finish is dry and clean, with lingering tropical fruit.
