Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond is a Kentucky straight bourbon, the second release in the Whiskey Row Series, launched in 2015 to mark the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. It is bottled at 50% (100 proof) in a 750ml bottle.
It was distilled in one season by one distiller at the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville and aged at least four years in a bonded warehouse, in new charred American oak. The mashbill is 72 percent corn, 18 percent rye and 10 percent malted barley. Old Forester moved from 90 to 100 proof when the Act passed.
Tasting notes mention cinnamon, toasted oak, baked apple and vanilla on the nose, then caramel, dark fruit, leather and pepper on a full palate. The finish is long, with oak, dark chocolate, cinnamon and clove.
