The third release in the Old Forester Whiskey Row Series, which began in 2016, this Kentucky straight bourbon is bottled at 115 proof (57.5%). It looks back to Prohibition, when Brown-Forman held permit KY-3, one of six issued to Kentucky distilleries to bottle whiskey for medicinal purposes. Barrel stocks of that era concentrated to roughly 115 proof, and this bottling recreates that strength.
The mash bill is 72 percent corn, 18 percent rye and 10 percent malted barley, matured in new charred American oak.
The nose is cherry preserves, chewy caramel and dark chocolate. The palate brings cinnamon, black pepper, caramel and peppermint, with toasted pecan and rye spice, before a long, warming finish of oak, milk chocolate and maple syrup.
