Old Forester Birthday Bourbon is an annual release issued on 2 September to honour the birthday of founder George Garvin Brown. The 2021 edition is the 21st in the series, a Kentucky straight bourbon of twelve years, bottled at 104 proof (52%) in a 750ml bottle.
It was drawn from 119 barrels filled on 16 April 2009 and matured in Old Forester's Warehouse G. The tasting panel chose them for their fruit-forward character, and this edition leans towards red fruit and dessert notes.
The nose is described as red raspberry preserves, blackberry and dried strawberry over dried herbs, vanilla crème brûlée, pecan, maple and cocoa. The palate is velvety and rich, with buttery caramel, burnt sugar and Linzer cookie before peppery spice. The finish is long and warm, with a gentle dryness.
