Old Forester Birthday Bourbon is a 12 year old Kentucky straight bourbon, released each year in honour of founder George Garvin Brown, whose birthday falls on 2 September. This 2023 edition was barrelled in 2011 and bottled in 2023, in a 750ml bottle at 96 proof (48%).
The barrels were chosen as a vintage selection, and the bourbon is described as favouring elegance and layered sweetness over sheer intensity.
The nose offers warm caramel, honeyed oak, ripe red fruit, baking spice and soft vanilla. On the palate come brown sugar, toasted almond, cinnamon, dried cherry and light cocoa, followed by a smooth, lingering finish of gentle spice and oak.
