This is a 13 year old rye whiskey from Old Potrero Distillery in San Francisco, made from a mash bill of 100% malted rye. It is bottled in bond at 50% ABV (100 proof).
The name pays tribute to A.P. Hotaling, the whiskey merchant who famously preserved his stock through the Great San Francisco Earthquake.
The nose is toasted nuts, saddle leather, caramelised sugar and dried fruit. The palate is rich and warming, with bold rye spice, oak, toffee and hints of dark chocolate. The finish is long and dry, with baking spice and charred oak.
