This is a 5 year old Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Peerless, distilled in 2016 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society at 54.5% ABV. It was matured in a single charred new oak barrel, cask RW4.2, named Second To None, and 179 bottles were filled.
Peerless makes its bourbon and rye in Louisville, from grain to bottle under one roof. The first Peerless whiskey went into barrel in 1889.
The nose offers banana bread, fudge, butterscotch, figs and marmalade. On the palate there are flambéed pineapple rings, singed orange peel and toasted coconut, and the long finish carries charred pepper, cloves and spearmint.
