This is a Grüner Veltliner from the Weinviertel in Austria, made as a Weinviertel DAC Reserve. The grapes come from the Hund vineyard on the Bisambergkette, a range of hills bordering Vienna, where the soil is flysch and sandstone.
The vines are around 37 years old and trained on trellises with a dense canopy that helps hold moisture in the soil. The grapes are pressed lightly and rest for about eight hours before the final pressing. Fermentation and maturation are split evenly, half in oak barrels and half in stainless steel tanks.
The wine is pale yellow. The nose shows black pepper with orange and pineapple. On the palate pepper meets minerality and citrus meets apple, finishing full and complex.
