A Grüner Veltliner from Weingut Pfaffl, labelled Weinviertel DAC and named Zeisen. The vines are around 42 years old, trained on trellises on south-facing sites close to a forest, where days and nights differ widely in temperature. The soil is light, sandy loess. The grapes are pressed gently, rest for about two hours before the final pressing, and ferment at 19°C in stainless steel. The wine then stays four months in stainless steel before bottling. It is pale yellow with green reflections. The nose is black pepper, citrus and wild herbs, and the palate is fruity and crisp, ending in a spicy finish.
