Pittyvaich – 30 Year Old Special Release 2020 (50.8%)

This is a 30 year old single malt from Pittyvaich, bottled as a 2020 Special Release at 50.8% ABV. The distillery operated for only 18 years before it closed in 1993. In the glass it is clear and golden with a high viscosity. Adding a drop of water lifts the aromas further on the nose, and at natural strength the palate is easy to drink, with a balance that stays intact. The nose is fruity and oily, with tropical fruit, pear, papaya, pineapple and banana. The palate is lightly oily, with vanilla sweetness, crisp green fruit and a freshness that is striking for its age. Water makes it slightly sweeter.
