Plantation Guatemala 2022 Red Pineau des Charentes Single Cask (70cl, 42.9%)

A single cask Guatemalan rum from Destiladora de Alcoholes y Rones, distilled in 2018 from molasses with a two to three day fermentation and multi-column distillation. It spent two years in Bourbon casks in the tropics, one year in Ferrand casks on the continent, and a further four months in red Pineau des Charentes wine casks. It was bottled at 42.9% vol. The nose is elegant and balanced, with wood, allspice, fruits, honey, orange blossom, black currant, coconut and vanilla, later banana, apricot, nuts and floral notes. The palate is rich, with varnish, pineapple and plum cake, then sour cherry, gooseberry, rose petals and pepper. The finish is long and fruity, with vanilla.
