Pōkeno – Discovery New Zealand Single Malt Whisky (70cl, 43%)

Pōkeno Discovery is a New Zealand single malt from Pōkeno Whisky Co, made with locally grown barley and volcanic spring water from the North Island. It is bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The whiskies are matured separately in first-fill bourbon, oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximénez casks, then married together. The warmer Waikato climate speeds maturation, and the oloroso adds nutty spice while the Pedro Ximénez brings darker, raisined tones. The nose offers cocoa nibs, dried figs, ripe cherries and treacle. On the palate come dark chocolate, vanilla, orange peel and baking spice, followed by a long finish of dried raisins, cocoa, allspice and gentle citrus.
