This is an eight-year-old heavily peated Islay single malt from Port Charlotte, part of the Cask Exploration Series and bottled in 2021 at 56.1%. It marries two parts of whisky distilled in November 2011, made from Concerto barley peated to 40 ppm. One part spent six years in first-fill ex-American whiskey casks, then two years in first-fill Pauillac red wine casks. The other spent seven years in first-fill American whiskey casks, then continued in second-fill Pauillac red wine casks. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. The nose has vanilla, toffee and velvety coal smoke, with brine and ginger beer. The palate moves from sweet and oily to drier, with herbs, seaweed, smoked ham and black pepper. The finish is long, with lemon, salt and ash.

Palate

Finish

Long, with lemon and salt between nutty notes and oak spice; clear soot and ash

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
