This is a 24 year old Port Ellen, distilled in 1978 and bottled in 2002 as the second release in Diageo's annual Special Releases series. It is an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle. Port Ellen stopped distilling in 1983. Its smokiness is described as maritime, with a sharp lemon element, light tar and an oily texture. The nose is floral, with hints of lavender and some peat. The palate is chewy, with pipe tobacco, Parma violet and lavender, and the finish is big and lingers.
