A 39-year-old Islay single malt from Port Ellen, distilled in 1978 and bottled in 2018 at a natural cask strength of 50.9% ABV. This Untold Stories release, named The Spirit Safe, is limited to 1500 bottles and comes in a 70cl bottle. It matured for almost four decades in refill European sherry casks and ex-bourbon casks. The wooden display box has a double key opening, a reference to the spirit safe installed at Port Ellen in the 1820s. The nose has golden syrup, gingerbread, toffee and candied lime over ripe tropical fruit. The palate adds pineapple, mango and manuka honey, with subtle peat and cigar smoke. The finish is long, turning ashy and dry.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
