This is a 40 year old Islay single malt from Port Ellen, released by Finn Thomson in a 70cl bottle at 52.7%. It comes from a single refill sherry butt and was bottled as 680 bottles.
The spirit was distilled on 16 March 1983, a few weeks before the distillery closed, and bottled on 6 November 2023. Finn Thomson revived his family's whisky business, which goes back nine generations, and the cask comes from the Thomson family's private collection.
Port Ellen is usually described as smoky and maritime, with sharp lemon, light tar and an oily texture.
