This is a four-year-old Italian blended malt from the Puni distillery in South Tyrol, bottled at 54.2% in a 50cl bottle for the independent Darkness series from Atom Brands. It is not chill-filtered and has no added colour.
It was finished in a small, purpose-made Pedro Ximénez sherry octave, which has more wood surface relative to the liquid than a large cask.
Roasted almond biscuits, chocolate-covered coffee beans and plum jam lead the nose, with a hint of tobacco. The palate has waxy citrus, mocha and stewed stone fruit, with cigar-box spice and leathery oak. Pepper, earthy coffee and dry wood spice close the finish.
