An Italian single malt from Puni Distillery in South Tyrol, bottled in 2018 after five years in virgin Marsala casks. It comes in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV.
Marsala is a fortified wine from Sicily, and its influence shows in ripe fruit, raisin, nuttiness and a vinous structure. The Puni distillate is relatively light, so the cask comes through clearly.
The nose has raisin, dried apricot, nuts, caramel and a light spiciness. The palate is round and winey, with honey, dried fruit, soft spices and oxidative notes. The finish is of medium length, slightly sweet and nutty, and warm.
