This is an Indian single malt from Rampur, one of the oldest distilleries in India, just east of Delhi. G.N. Khaitan bought it in 1972, and it is now owned by Radico Khaitan. Asava is finished in Cabernet Sauvignon casks and bottled at 45% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The nose opens with honeysuckle, lychee and tobacco leaf, with orange zest, sultanas, dates and sweet spices. The palate brings cinnamon, clove, bitter marmalade, mocha and dried fruits such as raisins, figs and prunes. The finish is long, with black pepper, tobacco leaf, black cherry and honeyed dates.
