RD1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon is made by RD1 Spirits in Lexington, Kentucky, and takes its name from Registered Distillery No. 1, founded in 1865 on Manchester Street. It is bottled at 49.5% ABV and is non-chill-filtered.
The mash bill is high in corn, at roughly 70 to 75%, with rye and malted barley. The bourbon is aged for a minimum of four years in new charred American oak barrels.
The nose is vanilla bean, brown sugar, toasted oak and orange peel. Caramel and butterscotch lead the palate, followed by baking spice, cinnamon and dark fruit. The finish is long and toasty, with vanilla cream, oak spice and a little tobacco.
