Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old is a Highland single malt bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. The distillery stands at the foot of the Cairngorm mountains, a mile from Balmoral Castle.
It is medium-bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. The nose is fairly closed, with planed wood, light toffee and boat varnish, and a lychee-like acidity later on. Water brings up acid drops and sweetens the nose.
On the palate it is delicate and sweet, with fruit, planed wood and light toffee, before the acidity builds. The finish is dry and medium in length, with lingering sandalwood.
