This is Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old, a Highland single malt bottled at 40% ABV. The distillery stands near Balmoral Castle and is one of the smallest in Scotland. Queen Victoria visited in 1848, and it was granted a Royal Warrant. The whisky is part of Diageo's Classic Malts Selection.
The nose is creamy, with hay, malted barley, citrus peel, brown sugar and wood chips, plus light smoke and liquorice. On the palate, soft smoke and gingerbread meet demerara sugar and boiled sweets, in a dry, slightly oily texture. The finish is grassy and honeyed, clean and soft, with a little lingering spice and wood.
