Royal Lochnagar 12 Years Old is a single Highland malt Scotch whisky from the Royal Lochnagar Distillery at Crathie, Deeside, in Aberdeenshire. The distillery's label gives its founding as 1845. This bottling is 40% ABV, in a 70cl bottle.
The nose opens a little closed, with linseed oil, candle wax and planed wood, then toffee, pear drops, ripe banana and grapefruit. The palate is soft and honeyed, with shortbread, toast, raisins, plums, vanilla and baking spices. The finish is medium to long and dry, with sandalwood, brown sugar coffee and a faint smoke from the toasted cask rather than peat.
