This is a 16 year old Royal Lochnagar single malt from the 2021 Special Release. Lochnagar was given the Royal prefix after Queen Victoria tasted its whisky in 1848, and it remains one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. The whisky is a bright golden colour with a medium body.
The nose is soft and round, with orange peel and green apple, a hint of puff pastry and a lightly woody base. Water adds white grape and a little spice.
The palate is creamy, with barley and sweet sugar, a fruity acidity mid-palate and some oak dryness, and warm spice builds as it goes. The finish is warming, with white pepper and lightly spiced wood.
