This is a 36 year old Royal Lochnagar, a Highland single malt from a single refill hogshead. It was filled on 20th October 1978 and bottled officially in 2015 at natural cask strength, 57.6%, in a 70cl bottle. The outturn was 174 bottles.
The colour is rich amber. The nose develops slowly, moving from rich wine notes to creamy, fragrant ones, then tropical fruit. The palate is creamy, sweet and warming, with crème brûlée and some spice. The finish is medium to long, pleasingly sour and chewy, with lingering spice and a touch of black tea and ginger.
