Säntis – Malt 'rot' Himmelberg Swiss Alpine Single Malt (20cl)

Himmelberg is a Swiss single malt from the Säntis range, named after a peak in the Alpstein area near Appenzell. It comes in a 20cl bottle. The whisky spent several years in old, thick-walled beer casks, followed by a second maturation in oak casks that previously held wine. This bottling draws on many different wine and sweet wine casks mixed together, including port, sherry and merlot, rather than a single wine type. In the glass it is light copper with pink reflections. Sweet pear, vanilla and cinnamon lead the nose, and the palate moves towards spice, pepper and caramelised ginger. The finish is warm, long and woody, with floral notes at the end.
