Second Glance is the first release of a five year old American whiskey from Savage & Cooke, blended by Dave Phinney from hand-selected barrels sourced in Kentucky. The mash bill is 95% corn, 4% rye and 1% malted barley.
It spends at least five years in ex-bourbon barrels, then is finished in wine barrels from Phinney's Napa Valley Cabernet projects. It is brought down to 44% ABV with water from a high-elevation property in Alexander Valley, California.
The nose is rich and bold, with maple wood, cardamom, buttery toast and black cherries. The palate is intense, with honey, caramel, hazelnut and baked dark fruits, leading to a layered, complex finish.
